The Problem
Starting with PS3 software 2.40, Sony changed its Bluetooth parameters which caused a strange problem where IR2BT commands are no longer recognized ONLY IF the PS3 is powered ON via the IR2BT. If the PS3 is powered ON with any other method (game controller, insert disc, touch front button, etc.) then all IR2BT commands are recognized including powering OFF.
The Fix
We're making an exception to our product policy (www.ir2bt.com/cart/index.php?main_page=shippinginfo) and are offering a no-charge update for current IR2BT owners. In short, owners can ship their IR2BT back to us, we'll update it and ship it back to you. The owner will only have to pay for the shipping to us - we'll pay for the update and the shipping back to the owner. The IR2BT is not user-upgradeable and this will be the only way to get your IR2BT updated. The details are below.
Who Is Affected
Any IR2BT with a serial number (the number on the right side of the label) from 0001 to 1399 is affected by the Sony 2.4x software. Any new IR2BTs ordered on July 8th (serial number 1400 and above) already have the fix incorporated and do NOT need to be updated.
THE PROCESS
STEP 1 - Place your Update Service Order Online
STEP 2 - MAIL BACK YOUR IR2BT
STEP 3
We'll update your IR2BT, ship it back to you via USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation, and update the status of your invoice online.
International customers - As mentioned above, I will mark the customs form that the contents are "RETURN FROM REPAIR" with a value of $0.
The turnaround time required to update and ship back your IR2BT is going to be variable depending on how many people send them at the same time. We're going to plan on a maximum of 2 weeks from the time it's received until it's shipped back out. That's assuming a 500 unit backlog and being able to update and ship about 50 per day. If the queue is only about 50 units deep, then the turnaround time will be about one day. I'll update the current backlog situation here every couple of days to let people know ROUGHLY how long the turnaround would be.
So it really depends on how long you want to be without your IR2BT. From the forum poll (albeit a small sample) the majority of you didn't upgrade to 2.4x and are still working fine. If you have no burning reason to update your PS3 then I'd suggest that you don't upgrate your PS3 to 2.41 and wait a few weeks before sending your IR2BT back since the queue should be much shorter then. You don't HAVE to send your IR2BT in for the update if you don't want to. You'll have about 10 weeks (until September 30, 2008) to place your online order for the update and ship your IR2BT back to us. Those of you who did upgrade your PS3 to 2.4x can send yours back with the above queue knowledge in mind.
All updates will be processed in the order that they are physically received. Invoice number and serial number are irrelevant in determining when your IR2BT will be updated. It will simply be first-in the door, first-out the door.
Status - As with your first order, you can check the status online by logging onto the order system (www.ir2bt.com/cart) and viewing your history. If it says "Processing" then we have not yet received your IR2BT. If it says "Received for Update", then we have received your IR2BT and it's in the update queue. If it says "Shipped", then it has already been updated and shipped back to you. You will be sent an email with any status changes.
