Just thought I'd post what we've found so far today. The long thread on this topic can be found at http://ir2bt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=185
It's obvious now that the Sony 2.40 release has a lot more issues than just creating a problem for the IR2BT, which is why Sony pulled it the same day it was posted. There are reported issues with controllers, keyboards, media server, bricked PS3s, and more.
The fact that we use a discrete Bluetooth module with custom firmware on-board is why this 2.40 issue affects the IR2BT and not other converter options that use parts removed from a Sony BD remote. I'm sure that Sony tested it with their products, but not so much with third-party accessories.
The good news is that we have found the problem between the IR2BT and the 2.40 firmware, and have produced a preliminary fix that, so far, has tested to restore complete functionality with the 2.40 firmware. We'll continue to test it, but the question currently remains whether this fix is immediately necessary. While the IR2BT changes we've made might be good to help protect from any future updates Sony may produce, it's still a little too early to progress to the next step of applying our update to new IR2BTs and figuring out the process to update existing IR2BTs. With the quickness that the 2.40 upgrade was pulled, and the products reportedly affected, I'd think that Sony would be putting out an update very soon (but it's Sony so who knows). Then again, we don't know for certain that the Sony update will restore the Power ON via the IR2BT functionality. We'll just have to wait a little more and see when an update comes out of Sony and if it returns all functionality to the existing IR2BTs. Then we'll be able to assess the next steps.
So for right now, those of you that were lucky enough to not upgrade to 2.40 are fine. Those of you who upgraded to 2.40 can use some of the workarounds posted in the long thread with the bottom line of - don't use the IR2BT to power ON the PS3.
Personally (but these are your decisions), I'd probably recommend that people on 2.40 upgrade to whatever Sony releases next since there are obviously problems in 2.40. Let's hope they restore functionality lost by 2.40. For those not on 2.40 I'd probably recommend you wait and see what any new Sony updates bring, not just in the near-term but also in the future (reference XP SP3, Vista, et al.).
Thanks for your patience and support while we work through this.
