Post Problem with PS3 2.40 firmware
Just thought I'd post what we've found so far today. The long thread on this topic can be found at http://ir2bt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=185

It's obvious now that the Sony 2.40 release has a lot more issues than just creating a problem for the IR2BT, which is why Sony pulled it the same day it was posted. There are reported issues with controllers, keyboards, media server, bricked PS3s, and more.

The fact that we use a discrete Bluetooth module with custom firmware on-board is why this 2.40 issue affects the IR2BT and not other converter options that use parts removed from a Sony BD remote. I'm sure that Sony tested it with their products, but not so much with third-party accessories.

The good news is that we have found the problem between the IR2BT and the 2.40 firmware, and have produced a preliminary fix that, so far, has tested to restore complete functionality with the 2.40 firmware. We'll continue to test it, but the question currently remains whether this fix is immediately necessary. While the IR2BT changes we've made might be good to help protect from any future updates Sony may produce, it's still a little too early to progress to the next step of applying our update to new IR2BTs and figuring out the process to update existing IR2BTs. With the quickness that the 2.40 upgrade was pulled, and the products reportedly affected, I'd think that Sony would be putting out an update very soon (but it's Sony so who knows). Then again, we don't know for certain that the Sony update will restore the Power ON via the IR2BT functionality. We'll just have to wait a little more and see when an update comes out of Sony and if it returns all functionality to the existing IR2BTs. Then we'll be able to assess the next steps.

So for right now, those of you that were lucky enough to not upgrade to 2.40 are fine. Those of you who upgraded to 2.40 can use some of the workarounds posted in the long thread with the bottom line of - don't use the IR2BT to power ON the PS3.

Personally (but these are your decisions), I'd probably recommend that people on 2.40 upgrade to whatever Sony releases next since there are obviously problems in 2.40. Let's hope they restore functionality lost by 2.40. For those not on 2.40 I'd probably recommend you wait and see what any new Sony updates bring, not just in the near-term but also in the future (reference XP SP3, Vista, et al.).

Thanks for your patience and support while we work through this.

Well, still no word on a Sony update as of Sunday night but I thought I'd give an update from our end.

Our fix is working perfectly with 2.40. To answer someone's earlier question - yes, we've not only changed the parameter that's currently offending 2.40 but all possible parameters. Our fix does require physically updating the IR2BT. No hardware change is needed but the software update cannot be implemented by the user. All new/future IR2BTs will already have this update.

Existing IR2BT Customers
We'll implement a "mail-in to update" program. You can mail your IR2BT back to us, we'll apply the update and mail it back to you. There will be no charge from us for this, the only thing you'll need to pay is return shipping back to us. I want to give existing customers this heads-up, but I don't yet want to begin this phase until Sony issues their fix for 2.40. I'd hate for people to start mailing their units back and then have Sony put out their fix which might bring back full IR2BT functionality. Many users might eventually want to get their IR2BT updated to prevent any future Sony "issues", and our update offer will remain regardless of what happens with Sony's 2.40 fix, but I'm going to hold off on putting out the entire mail-in procedure for a few more days and hope we see something out of Sony soon. This makes the most sense right now.

People waiting to purchase from the next batch of IR2BTs
The updates have already been applied to the next batch of 1,000 IR2BTs that were originally to go on sale last week. I plan to put those 1,000 in the store on Tuesday July 8th. I'll send out a notification email to all subscribers of the distribution list beforehand.

Existing users who haven't upgraded to 2.40 - you're still working fine but check back here before applying any future Sony upgrades.
Existing users who did upgrade to 2.40 - please utilize the workarounds listed previously until we see what Sony does.
All existing users - stay tuned for complete details on our "mail-in to update" program.
New users - the next 1,000 will go on sale soon and all of those units will already contain the update.

Thanks again for your patience and support,

Bruce...

Post 2.41 is out
Sony's 2.41 update is out and I have confirmed that:

1. The existing IR2BTs still have the PowerOn problem with 2.41
2. Our update works fine with 2.41

I'll have more information on the return program soon.
